2017 Chevy Silverado HD diesel vs 2016 Chevy Silverado HD diesel

The diesel engine on the 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500HD currently available our Broadway Automotive inventory offers 397 horsepower and 765 pound-feet of torque. It can trailer up to 18,000 pounds with 5th wheel towing or 14,500 with conventional towing.

While we don’t have current towing figures on the new Duramax 6.6-liter V8 turbo-diesel, we do know that it will deliver a significant increase in horsepower and torque, up to 445 horsepower and 910 pound feet. We think that will mean significant advantages when it comes to towing and hauling as well, thanks to new features like a refined hood air intake system which should allow more reliable towing.

“With nearly 2 million sold over the past 15 years, customers have forged a bond with the Duramax diesel based on trust and capability,” said Dan Nicholson, vice president, Global Propulsion Systems, in a recent Chevy press release. “The new Duramax takes those traits to higher levels.”

This engine will be mated to the Allison 1000 six-speed transmission and have a Tow/Haul mode and smart diesel exhaust braking.

2017 Duramax Diesel V8 Is Quieter, Features New Tech

The 2017 Duramax Diesel on the new Chevy Silverado has other advantages besides great towing and hauling. Thanks to new rocker cover/fuel system acoustical treatments, a new full-length damped steel oil pan, and other features, engine noise on this model has been reduced by 38 percent when the vehicle is at idle. This means more comfortable and enjoyable driving in many conditions.

We’re very excited about this new, enhanced diesel engine, and the capability it will bring to the road. For more information on when this model will be released in the Green Bay WI area, or to schedule a test drive at Broadway Automotive, contact a member of our team today.
