Cadillac Introduces Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communication (V2V)

Cadillac continues to introduce cutting-edge technology features in their new vehicles. One of the recent advances is the new Cadillac User Experience connectivity technology. The latest feature that will be coming in the new Cadillac CTS is V2V, a communication system that will revolutionize how vehicles handle road challenges and interact with each other on the road. Keep reading to learn what is Cadillac V2V, how it works, and what advantages we can expect from it in the future.

What is Cadillac V2V?

The V2V technology being pioneered on the 2017 Cadillac CTS promises to change the way we drive. But what is Cadillac V2V? Standing for Vehicle-to-Vehicle, V2V allows vehicles equipped with the technology to share real-time information about traffic condition, road hazards, and vehicle locations at distances of up to 980 feet .

How does Cadillac Vehicle-to-Vehicle communication work?

vehicles sharing information with Cadillac V2VThe Cadillac’s V2V system allows a vehicle to scan for other vehicles equipped with the technology and learn about their locations, directions, and speeds. It uses Dedicated Short-Range Communications (DSRC) operating on the 5.9 GHz spectrum allowed by the Federal Communications Commission, and also employs GPS systems. Cadillac V2V can handle up to 1,000 messages per second.

When a road hazard is detected, this system will inform the driver using the main information display. It will offer helpful updates that may change how drivers maneuver around obstacles.

Will my car with V2V try to take over the world?

Only vehicles with this technology will be able to communicate with one another, so it will be very limited at this point. As more vehicles (both those from Cadillac and those from other brands) come equipped with this technology, it will work better to provide accurate traffic updates and help drivers respond to changing road conditions. This may eventually help vehicles become automated more reliably. However, we have faith that, with judicious engineering and care, this will not lead to an automotive artificial intelligence takeover of the world. We are hopeful that this technology will just make the road safer for everyone.
