Roadside Attractions Washington State
Already two-thirds of the way through the month of July, the summer is just flying on by. Have you had a chance to take to the open road yet? Still brainstorming some possible destinations for your next adventure? Well, at Seattle Metro Used Cars, we know that there is no greater connection than the love triangle that exists between driver, car, and highway. We have done our research and have come up with some of the most zany, interesting, and weird roadside attractions in Washington state. Take a look at some of these suggestions and go out and explore.
Dino-mite Time: Granger, WA (2 hours and 47 minute drive, 169 miles from Seattle)
Turn back the clock and walk amongst the dinosaurs at Dinosaur Town with Volcanic Toilets (no worries–the name doesn’t imply backed up plumbing–just that the exterior of the washrooms was constructed to resemble Pompeii or Mount St. Helens). The dinosaur-fixation really has no true motivation. The large reptile replicas were erected and displayed in the early 90s and since then Granger has been a destination for wild-minded kids and grownups who never grew up. Totaling almost 30 dinosaurs altogether, the statues inhabit a park and some of the downtown.
Presidential Municipality: George, Washington (2 hours and 21 minute drive, 149 miles from Seattle)
When a successful shoe salesman with comedic sensibilities buys up land in Central Washington in order to form a municipality, there is only one name that would do: George. Charlie Brown founded his town in honor of the army general and first President. Fittingly, the first business in the George was the Martha Inn. A bronze bust is located in the town. Every July 4th the world’s largest cherry pie is baked as a salute to the American Cincinnatus. Come see for yourself.
Freaky and Free Marsh Museum: Long Beach, Washington (3 hours and 6 minute drive, 171 miles from Seattle)
If your thing is seeing the remains of a half man, half alligator, then you probably want to head down to Long Beach. Marsh’s Free Museum offers oddities galore, but none more popular than Jake the Alligator Man. Other strange artifacts the museum has collected over the years include: an authentic shrunken head of a Jivaro Indian from South America and an eight legged baby lamb with one head. Check out the “World’s Largest Frying” pan which is also in Long Beach while you are in town.
