When you go looking for a truck or crossover vehicle, you may come across plenty of Chevrolet and GMC models. Both of these brands exist under the umbrella of GM (General Motors) along with Buick and Cadillac. Moreover, if you compare similar models in these two brands (for example, the Chevy Silverado and the GMC Sierra light-duty, full-size trucks) then the mechanical similarities are huge. Are they really the same vehicle with different branding? What’s the difference between Chevy and GMC brands? Learn more in this blog.

Different Model Availability

While the Chevy brand offers almost every body style of car (compact cars, hatchbacks, sedans, muscle cars, a range of crossovers, light- and heavy-duty trucks, and vans, just to name the major categories) the GMC brand deals exclusively in trucks, crossovers and SUVs. There are also significantly fewer GMC dealerships, and fewer GMC models produced and sold annually. This makes them rarer. Even if a GMC truck and a Chevy truck may have the same dimensions, capability, and engine, the GMC truck may be rarer and more expensive.

More Luxury Options with GMC

One way in which GMC vehicles may be different from Chevy models is in the available luxury options. The elite Denali trim level available on new GMC trucks and SUVs can offer a higher level of luxury than those available on Chevy vehicles, even the top-of-the-line models.
