The Kia Soul has long been recognized as an icon of fun and carefree design, thanks to its boxy exterior and the funny commercials with the dancing hamsters. That doesn’t mean that it’s a frivolous ride, however, as this multi-purpose vehicle got a serious engine upgrade for the new model year. We’ll detail new features like the 2017 Kia Soul’s turbo engine, as well as other reasons why this is one multi-purpose vehicle that is impossible to beat.
New Features of the 2017 Kia Soul
While the 2017 Kia Soul comes with three model options and a similar wealth of color options as there were in 2016, there have been some nice upgrades for 2017, starting with the engine.
- All-new for the Kia Soul, a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine for the Exclaim (!) trim, with 201 horsepower, up from 164 maximum horsepower in 2016.
- Improved fuel economy from 27 combined mpg in 2016 to 28 combined mpg for 2017.
- Redesigned headlights and front fascia.
- UVO3 eServices, a next-gen upgrade from past models, with more room for music with 8GB, as well as the ability to sync with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, more.
- New 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission for a smoother, sportier ride.
- Two new exterior color choices.

While we love what the new 2017 Kia Soul is all about, here’s some splendid features of the Soul that aren’t necessarily new, but they are excellent carryovers.
