Top Six Thanksgiving Movies Charlie Brown and You’ve Got Mail

While Christmas is a major holiday and one that comes with a deserved buzz every year, thanks in part to the gift shopping that comes with it, Thanksgiving is tremendous holiday in its own right. While other federal holidays also serve wonderful purposes, such as honoring veterans or the great achievements and great people in American history, Thanksgiving comes at a time of the year when NFL football is in full swing, and NBA hoops and college football, among other sports, are also competing for eyeballs.

While we’re big fans of the annual football feast that you can enjoy on Thanksgiving, with games set for 2017 that include the New York Giants vs. Washington, Detroit vs. Minnesota, and Dallas vs. Los Angeles, not everyone wants to watch the pigskin flung across the gridiron for three-plus hours. Which is why we have compiled a handy list of great Thanksgiving movies you can play back-to-back, or spread out over the holiday season. Stay tuned for our list of the top six Thanksgiving movies, below!

Our List (Subjective, of Course) of the Top Six Thanksgiving-Themed Movies

“A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” (1973).

This is family-friendly, and like all Charlie Brown movies, heartwarming. You can’t go wrong with “Peanuts”-verse movies during any holiday or family gathering. The image we have included in this post shows characters Charlie Brown, Lucy and Snoopy from “Peanuts.”

“You’ve Got Mail” (1998) – rated PG.

This movie isn’t too focused on turkey day, but still has great moments that happen during the Thanksgiving season when Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan meet in a grocery store in this now-classic romantic comedy.

“Son in Law” (1993) – rated PG-13.

Pauly Shore was huge in the early 1990s, and this was one of his biggest moments, with a likable tale where Shore’s party animal character pretends to be Carla Gugino’s fiancé.

Charlie Brown Lucy and Snoopy from "Peanuts"

“Miracle on 34th Street” (1947).

This is a classic Christmas movie, and a great one for all ages, but it also has roots in Thanksgiving since it leads off with the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Plus, Edmund Gwenn’s performance as Kris Kringle was one for the ages.

“Home for the Holidays” (1995) – rated PG-13.

This ensemble family comedy features a stellar cast with Holly Hunter, Robert Downey Jr., Dylan McDermott and Anne Bancroft, and revolves around the Thanksgiving holiday.

“The Blind Side” (2009) – rated PG-13.

This heartwarming tear-jerker portrays the story of real-life NFL player Michael Oher and his relationship with the Tuohy family as he learns skills which he parlays to football glory, and eats a nice Thanksgiving meal, to boot.
