2017 Kia Optima Plug-in Revealed at Chicago Auto Show

This fuel efficient plug-in is one of Kia’s four hybrid models that comprise the company’s EcoDynamic sub-brand. Kia Motors America has already announced their intentions of expanding this model lineup to include 11 models by the year 2020.
Also on this timeline are KMA’s efficiency goals to create lighter cars that are more fuel efficient. The 2017 Optima Plug-in is just one more step closer to reducing overall vehicle weights by 5% and increasing fuel efficiency by 25%. Its aerodynamic exterior, paired with its high performance motor and well-appointed interior increase not only the hybrid’s efficiency but its overall appeal to consumers.

2017 Optima Plug-in Hybrid Technology
The combination of the 2017 Kia Optima Plug-in’s gas engine, electric motor and battery work to achieve higher energy outputs and consequently higher levels of efficiency and performance. The electric motor is 40% more powerful than the 2016 Optima Hybrid‘s and the engineering advancement, incorporating a High Voltage Electric Oil Pump, has led to an overall efficiency improvement of 20%. Translating these figures into performance, this equals an estimated 600 miles driving range and an convenient recharging time of less than 3 hours on a 240V (level 2) charger.

New on the 2017 Kia Optima Plug in Hybrid are driver assistance and advanced convenience technologies. The PHEV is equipped with Autonomous Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Warning System and Front Collision Alert for increased driver safety. For a superior driving experience, the PHEV has technologies modeled after those of the K900 luxury sedan including Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, UVO ET Services featuring wireless connectivity and remote control of the vehicle through the UVO app. Exclusive EV features of the 2017 Optima PHEV include charging station locator, ability to check the car’s charge status and schedule a charge event.
