  1. Fill your gas tank.
  2. Reset your trip meter to zero.
  3. Use at least half of your gas tank, then refill.
  4. Note the number of gallons it took to refill the second time as well as the number on your trip meter.
  5. Divide the miles on your trip meter by the gallons of gas you put in.
